The Smart Choice for Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Buildings

AACPHILIPPINES

According to the Worldwide AAC (2019), the use of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete can contribute to a 40% reduction in energy consumption, making it an essential material for sustainable construction. In the case of single-family houses in Germany, architects often choose a AAC’s as exterior walls for reasons of architectural design, durability, and resistance against wind-driven rain penetration. In fact, AAC masonry with low thermal conductivity (λ ≤ 0.120 W/(mK)) makes it possible to meet ambitious energy efficiency requirements.

LightStrong AAC blocks offer superior thermal insulation, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling in buildings. Their aerated structure minimizes heat transfer, keeping indoor temperatures stable despite fluctuating outdoor conditions. This translates to lower electricity consumption, reduced reliance on HVAC systems, and ultimately, a significant decrease in carbon emissions.

Construction Industry is Making the Switch to LightStrong AAC Blocks

Choosing the right building materials is crucial for any residential project. LightStrong Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Blocks are capturing the attention of developers and homeowners alike. Here are 6 reasons why residential projects are using LightStrong AAC Blocks:

Cost Efficiency

Residential projects are choosing LightStrong AAC blocks primarily because they offer substantial cost savings over the building’s lifecycle. Using LightStrong AAC blocks can reduce maintenance and operating costs by up to 30%-40%.

On the other hand, the lighter weight of LightStrong AAC blocks reduces the dead load of the wall, which in turn decreases the amount of steel and concrete needed for the structural components. This leads to a 20% reduction in foundation costs. Additionally, using LightStrong blocks lowers overall construction costs by 2.5% due to the reduced need for jointing materials and the decreased quantity of cement and steel required.

No palitada needed

Unlike traditional plastering, LightStrong wall systems use a skim coat as a finishing layer, reducing cement and sand requirements and speeding up construction timelines.

Energy Efficiency

The cellular structure of LightStrong AAC blocks provides exceptional thermal insulation, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling. Because of its relatively low thermal conductivity, building a house using LightStrong AAC blocks reduces heating energy consumption by 6.6% and cooling energy by 40%.

Fire-Resistant Properties

Fire-resistant properties enhance the safety of homes. LightStrong AAC blocks are capable of withstanding high temperatures for up to 4 hours without compromising structural integrity. The non-combustible material makes it fire-resistant, effectively delaying the spread of fire to other areas of the building. This feature makes it an ideal choice for residential buildings, enhancing safety and providing added protection against fire hazards.

Sound Insulation Properties

LightStrong AAC blocks have air-filled cellular structures that offer great sound insulation, reducing noise between rooms and from outside. Generally, AAC provides a sound insulation value of 7dB greater than other solid building materials of the same weight per surface area, which greatly reduces external noise.

Ease of Construction and Time Savings

LightStrong AAC blocks are easy to cut, shape, and install, simplifying the construction process. The lightweight property of LightStrong AAC Blocks allows for a 50% reduction in man-hour labor costs and a 20% decrease in construction time.

Buildings constructed with LightStrong AAC blocks are more likely to achieve green building certifications, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). These certifications recognize the environmental performance and sustainability of construction projects. The YY House in Mandaue City, Cebu, built with LightStrong AAC Blocks, achieved LEED Platinum Single-Family Home certification. The YY House achieved recognition as the first LEED for Homes Certified Project in the Philippines and the Southeast Asia Region.

LightStrong AAC Blocks are transforming how homes are built, making them more eco-friendly, faster to construct, and cost-effective. Choosing this innovative material ensures homes are safer and more resilient, paving the way for a sustainable future in residential construction.

Why Sustainable Building Solutions Starts with LightStrong AAC Blocks

As we are dealing with climate change, people are finding ways to help minimize their impact on the environment. There is now an increased focus on designing buildings as sustainable and environmentally friendly. One is adopting green building practices.

Green building is a design and construction approach that incorporates environmental advocacy into building infrastructure. One of the key challenges in the Southeast Asian construction industry is adapting green buildings, and green building regulations are now becoming stricter. Aside from that, the energy demand is increasing faster than the supply, hence energy efficient green buildings will be more significant.

One material making waves in the sustainable construction industry is LightStrong AAC blocks. These innovative building blocks not only provide robust structural integrity but also significantly contribute to sustainability efforts.

LightStrong AAC Blocks, or Autoclaved Aerated Concrete blocks are durable, cost-saving, and sustainable building block. It is the first manufacturing plant in the Philippines located in Cebu City, and it is now a popular building material used for a variety of purposes in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.

One of AAC’s characteristics is its excellent thermal insulation properties. It reduces the need for space heating and cooling in buildings. Compared to aggregate concrete, it has an excellent thermal efficiency of 10 times greater, and two to three times better compared to clay bricks. As a result, buildings made by AAC blocks are warm during winter and cool during summer.  The reason that AAC blocks have an excellent thermal insulation property is its porous structure brought by the autoclaving process. Aside from that, AAC blocks do not use any insulation materials compared to aggregate concrete and clay bricks. Across Europe, the usage of AAC blocks offers a solution for reducing energy usage for both commercial and residential buildings.

Moreover, AAC improves the indoor air quality of buildings. This ensures safety in terms of the health of all citizens, especially children and the elderly who are likely to stay indoors. LightStrong AAC blocks is airtight, resulting in healthy indoor air. Its composition and cellular structure make it moisture resistant, preventing the development of mold, bacteria, or mildew, which can contribute to poor indoor air quality. Aside from that, LightStrong AAC blocks are pest resistant such as termites and insects. This property contributes to a healthier living environment by reducing the chance of using chemical pesticides to kill pests, which can have a negative effect on indoor air quality.

In addition, LightStrong AAC blocks are strong, lightweight, and 100% recyclable. It is made from natural materials such as sand and/or fly ash, quicklime, cement, gypsum and aeration agent aluminum, and water. All its components are reactive and do not contain any aggregates. Since it is made from natural resources, LightStrong AAC blocks have less carbon footprint and minor environmental impact since they contain no toxic substances.

The future of sustainable construction looks bright, with ongoing innovations in AAC block technology. Emerging trends in green building materials and practices will likely enhance the adoption of AAC blocks in various construction projects, paving the way for a more sustainable built environment. LightStrong AAC blocks offer a solution, promoting safer, greener, and more efficient structures.
